  • Christian Blind Mission, Sierra Leone Africa

The Lowell and Ruth Gess United Methodist Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone was founded in 1984 as Kissy Eye Clinic by Dr. Lowell Gess, a United Methodist missionary, who served 58 years in Sierra Leone. The eye clinic survived Sierra Leone’s devastating civil war and Ebola epidemic and now, with the assistance of a research team from Emory University, treats Ebola survivors with visual complications.
